Discomfort is usually minimal and brief with Botox and dermal filler treatments. The area is numbed with local anesthetic cream and an ice pack, and we use a very tiny needle for the injections.
It is an option, but not usually necessary. A few factors should be considered. 1) Your tolerance for pain. 2) Where are we planning to inject? Lip filler treatments can be more sensitive. 3) Are you planning to go back to work? It is also greatly dependent on the injector; good local anesthetics, mixing the filler with lidocaine, and slow injection will minimize the pain. If you’d still like to discuss a nerve block, we can do so during your consultation.
Neither product is permanent and will last for different lengths of time depending where, how much, and which product is used. On average, Botox lasts 3-4 months, and dermal fillers last on average about a year. Although, Voluma dermal filler treatments typically last up to two years.
Yes, your facial appearance will not be radically changed. The muscle activity will be temporarily reduced, but you will be able to frown, smile, look surprised, etc. We don’t want you to look ‘plastic’ or fake, we would rather initially inject less rather than too much. If you find you want a little more, you can schedule an appointment a few days following dermal filler treatment.
